Our structural engineering team has accumulated a wealth of expertise in design that enables Gemma BDS to offer you, our Client, an all embracing service to meet your structural requirements. Each project is allocated a dedicated team of qualified engineers and technicians who use the latest design and detailing software tools to ensure delivery of a quality product / service.

Gemma BDS has the capacity and flexibility to be involved with not only major schemes, some in excess of £40million, but also can take on those smaller projects that irrespective of their size still demand quality and attention to detail. Steel, Concrete and timber frame constructions, particularly for multi-storey structures are all a staple diet for our design Engineers.

We are instrumental in the application of modern methods of construction (MMC) and recognise the importance of working closely with clients, architects and material suppliers to ensure a co-ordinated design, we have now embraced 3D design using REVIT from Autodesk.

Residential - we can provide a comprehensive structural design package for the cost effective design of foundations and superstructures associated with residential and commercial projects.


Domestic - we give advice to architects, builders and private individuals on modifications to existing properties; such as removal of loadbearing walls, or the feasibility of loft conversions.

Extensions - we offer advice to individuals on building modifications and provide calculations to satisfy building control.

Loft Conversions - we can advise on the structural implications of loft conversions. We have worked with several loft conversion specialists and developed simple practical techniques to strengthen floors and roof to support the additional loads.

Subsidence - we assess / determine possible causes of subsidence, and provide solution's to remedy the situation. We can also discuss alternatives with loss adjustors and agree the most cost effective solution.

Defects - we advise on the probable cause of cracks, which may well not be due to foundation failure.
There are many different causes and our experienced staff can reassure you if the property doesn't have a major structural problem.
