A challenging project involving the conversion of a former woollen mill and associated outbuildings into offices and residential dwellings. In addition to the mill conversion there were also a number of high spec new build dwellings.
Longfords Mill was one of a number of woollen mills that flourished in this area in the 18th and 19th Centuries and during its history has undergone continuous change. This lead to some unexpected discoveries of long lost culverted water courses that neededredesign.
The development was complicated by the presence of Gatcombe Water dam that required upgrading works to its structure and spill way in order to meet current safety standards.
The associated wetlands, (which included a number of swallow holes!) constituted a site of major ecological interest and its conservation was paramount.
