80 Bed Care and Extra Care facility on an old landfill site

- There were difficult foundation conditions as the site was an old landfill tip over an aquifer and there were contamination issues. After protracted discussions with the Environment Agency a foundation design was agreed that incorporated CFA piles and a reinforced concrete raft. The superstructure was timber frame clad in masonry.
- The surface water treatment also had to be agreed with the E.A . and a SUDS porous paving solution was adopted together with perimeter tanking to the site so any contamination could not affect adjacent ground.
- The final solutions allowed the development to be built on a very problematic site with a negative land value, with a satisfied client.
